Well, I may as well. The more I learn about lettering, the more intriguing calligraphy, drawing, and type get. I’m already in tall cotton with this lettering thing so I figured I may as well try a logo design while I was at it. Fortunately, it won’t last long. I don’t consider myself that clever. But, here was my stab at it anyway.
This is a drawing I made in one of my sketchbooks. I was thinking about the jack of spades…only I don’t play cards. Still, the symmetry idea kind of lent itself to the letters J, B and L. So, I figured I’d play with that and somehow that L became the pencil and center line of almost symmetry.
So, it’s a little phallic. You grow a little sensitive to images like that when you go to art school. EVERYTHING in art school is phallic! But, I thought the process of coming to this image felt right. So, it stays for now. Since, I only just learned vectorizing, I suppose some day I will have to update this when I learn more about it. But, for now, I’m satisfied with it. It only has to please me.
That’s my lettering practice for today.
